Mr Coffee Grind and Brew 12 Cup GBX23

Coffee Maker, Grind & Brew - GBX23 is a stylish coffee maker that can make up to 12 cups of smooth-tasting coffee per batch. This grind and brew machine comes in classic black that will go well with the other appliances in the kitchen.

Key features

- This is a 12-cup coffeemaker with programmable features and a removable grinding chamber that is dishwasher-safe.
- Can brew fresh coffee beans or pre-ground coffee beans.
- Comes with a brew strength selector.
- The Brew Pause n’ Serve function allows you to get a cup of coffee even while the machine is in the middle of the brewing cycle.
- 2 hour automatic shut off warms the pot for two hours and shuts off automatically to save on power.
- Cord storage removes the clutter of electrical cords when the machine is not being used.
- Water level markings let you take accurate readings of the water level so that you will know how much water to put in.

Advantages

The machine produces smooth coffee in the desired temperature and it is easy to clean, especially since the filter is dishwasher-safe. The stylish design is perfect for chic kitchens and it comes with a grinder, which saves you the space compared to having one coffee maker and another machine for coffee grinding.

The grinding chamber is not hard to clean. You can lift the entire chamber up and pop it into the dishwasher for easy cleaning.

Disadvantages

Some users complain of a popping noise several cycles into use. The grinding process also results to more cleanup needed on the coffeemaker parts, since it tends to coat the inside parts of the coffee with coffee grounds.

The coffee comes out with a metallic taste which could be a result of the metal grinder. One also has to clean all the compartments because of the moisture. The coffee also does not come as hot as desired in some units. Other complaints include a very small grinder capacity that will not make possible the 8 cups of coffee stated on the product description, a flimsy lid that is bound to give way after a few uses, and the fact that the machine uses paper filters.

The machine also tends to give a burnt taste to the coffee no matter how low the settings already are. It also tends to drip coffee all over the kitchen counter.

Pros
- Great tasting coffee, at the desired temperature
- Filter and grind compartment is dishwasher safe
- Sleek and stylish design
- Saves space because you have the coffee maker and grinder all rolled into one.

Cons
- Grinding process takes a lot of time
- Grinding coats the inside parts of the machine with coffee grounds
- Coffee comes out with a metallic taste
- Coffee often comes with a burnt taste in some units even if the lowest temperature settings are used
- Uses paper filters which is a hassle to remove and replace
- Tends to leak coffee all over the counter top

Good- to very good coffee, tough cleaning
by: Anonymous

We have had this Mr. Coffee Grind and Brew 12 Cup Model for a little over two years. It make good coffee and is consistent in that area. The grinder will not handle more that 8 TBSP of beans, which for us makes seven cups (as measured on the view window measuring scale.) Cleaning is a giant pain. You must wash and dry the grinder between uses and it is very hard to do. About a year into use (we generally use it twice a day) the black arm on the grinder that feeds water into the ground coffee snapped at the attachment screw. I can still use it but it is hard. It was difficult to fit into the coffee maker right from the start anyway, and no, it did not break from forcing it.
Over all it is a fair to good product, but the next time I buy a coffeemaker I will buy a separate grinder.

AMAZING!
by: Joey

I am what some may consider a coffee connoisseur. In this day and age that really only means that you have gone outside the realm of Starbucks to experience coffee at it's finest. When I am not out and about purchasing home roasted coffee from a few of the local coffee roasteries, I can be found quite contently sipping a freshly brewed cup from my very own Mr. Coffee Grind and brew.

This machine is AMAZING! I did a little research and found it at Bed bath and beyond for an attractive price. I've had it for a little over a year now and would not give it up for the world. I say this for a number of reasons, but I will list a few of the top ones here. First off, it is not only a coffee maker, but a grinder as well. This gives you the option to use instant pre-grinded coffee, or to purchase whole beans and grind them at home giving you a fresher, 'just picked' taste.

Another thing that I more than love about this item is that it has a feature called pause n serve, which allows you to pause brewing long enough to pour a cup that has already brewed. This is perfect for those of us who are impatient and completely dependent upon our morning coffee fix! To top it off it's easy to clean, I simply have thrown the pot in the dishwasher and it's more than done the job.

All in all this is a great product and relatively inexpensive for the quality you are most definitely getting!

loud coffee grinder
by: Anonymous

Pros
- The pros of my Mr. Coffee Grind & Brew (GBX23)include the price. I spent $35 at Walmart on the coffee maker. An additional pro is the audio benefits. The coffee maker has a three beep reminder when it's finished making the coffee and also when it's about to turn off the warmer.

Cons
- The grinder for the Mr. Coffee Grind & Brew - GBX23 sounds like a jet airplane that is about to take off for flight. It's the loudest sounding coffee grinder I have ever heard. The second con is the limited amount of time it gives you (2 hours) before it shuts off the warming plate. On a scale of one to five (five being best)

So far so good!
by: Kathy

I have owned a Cuisinart and Melitta grind and brew. The Cuisinart did not last much over one year, coffee temp. was too hot for good flavor and was a pain to clean. The Melitta was great lasted for years but they do not make grind and brews that I can find anymore.

The Mr. Coffee is great, easy to clean, has a setting for stong flavor, and seems to be as good as the Melitta which I loved. I found it for $45.00 at Walmart. I have only owned it for one week. Hopefully it will last, but for that price I can buy another one for the price of one faulty Cuisinart.
