Krupps XP 1500 Coffee Maker
It is a coffee maker/espresso maker combo which we bought shortly after we were married. It was a fairly good price for what you get for your money. As combo systems go, it is a very economical choice.
It is a pretty bulky for our taste but my husband loves to have the option to make coffee, espresso, or both on any given day. It is nice, easy to use coffee maker with easily accessible reservoirs and filters which are removable for easy washing.
One problem that we have found is that replacement parts for this model are not as easily accessible as some models. You have to special order the espresso carafe, for example, if it breaks. We really like the coffee pot design. It is shaped well for easy pouring.
One really huge design flaw is the position of the espresso steam nozzle. It is positioned so low that a normal cup will not fit under it and so, if you do not have the espresso carafe, it is basically impossible, or at least very messy, to make espresso. Another flaw we have found was the taste. We have been using the system for over two years and there is still a slight plastic taste every time we brew a pot of coffee.
We have tried cleaning it, running hot water through, and everything else you are supposed to do to clean out that residue taste and yet it persists. We know it is not the coffee or the water so we can conclude that the plastic in coffeemaker is porous enough to continually add a plastic taste to every pot. All in all, I would have to give this coffee maker a two out of five. While the price is good, all those little annoyances add up quickly.Pros
