KitchenAid Blade Coffee Grinder, Onyx Black BCG100OB1
I love this coffee grinder! It’s small enough to not take up much space, but grinds enough beans at once to make a decent pot of coffee. We go through phases: sometimes we grind coffee every day, and other times we buy pre-ground, but on average we probably grind about twice a week.
We’ve had this grinder for a few years and haven’t had any problems with it. Cleaning up is easy: simply brush out the excess grinds with a brush. If that doesn’t do the trick (and it usually does), the grinding cup twists right off for easy cleaning. My biggest complaint is that it is VERY loud.
I suppose that’s unavoidable, but it seems like there could be some way to muffle the noise, at least a little. It’s so loud that I really don’t use it if anyone in the house is sleeping, which can be problematic when making morning coffee! The other thing I’d like to change is that there’s no cord storage, so it’s a little messy sitting out on my counter (and of course you can never have enough cabinet space!).
It would be great if it had a hide-away cord, similar to those found on clothing irons, so that when I’m not using it, I could unplug it and tuck it away without the cord hanging out everywhere. (And without me having to wrap up the cord with a twist-tie every time.) The black body works well with our kitchen decor, and is a nice alternative to stainless (because you don’t have to worry about smudges and fingerprints!) The clear plastic cover is nice (because it allows the stainless grind cup to show through), but it has gotten some scratches from wear.
While it’s probably not a recommended use, I’ve also used this grinder to grind up regular oatmeal (before cooking it) for our infant son when he first started eating solids, and it worked really well. Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase and think it’s a great value for the price we paid…If only it were quieter, I definitely would have given it a 5 out of 5.Pros
