Black & Decker DCM2900 Smartbrew 12 cup Digital

by Mathew
(Memphis,TN)

Wow, I don't know where to start on how horrible this coffee maker is. It all started on Christmas 2007. My girlfriend and I received the coffee maker from her grandparents, which is horrible because I can't get rid of it.

To start with the reservoir is impossible to fill without spilling water all over the counter. The basket handle sticks out into the space where you are supposed to pour the water, after a few cleaned up messes I learned to remove the basket before I added the water.

I also had to remove the plunger (I have heard this called the "sneak a cup") at the bottom of the basket because it would not allow the coffee to exit fast enough. This caused the coffee to spill over the sides of the plastic bowl area that holds the basket and filter.

Aside from all these problems the coffee maker makes very, very weak coffee no matter how many grinds you put in.

I had to double the suggested amount just to make the coffee bearable. Lastly, when I finally have the worst cup of coffee I have to stick it in the microwave because it's barely above room temperature.

Please don't buy this coffee maker it is a waste of good money and to get a decent cup of coffee you have to waste more money using too many coffee grounds.

It’s really a great machine
by: Haley Reamer

I bought the Black & Decker DCM2900 SmartBrew 12 Cup Digital Coffee Maker from Wal-Mart in 2007, and I've had it for over a year now. It's a basic coffee maker, and that's why I like it so much. It's not complicated to use at all, and is very straightforward and user-friendly.

I have used a lot of different coffee makers before, and this one is definitely not convoluted or difficult to use. There are three basic steps to this coffee pot, and it’s extremely quick to make the coffee. I am amazed every time the water starts to boil so fast. I never ever have had coffee grounds in my coffee with this coffee pot, and I find the machine itself is very reliable. Also, it’s extraordinarily easy to clean.

My only complaint is that the inside rim of metal of the actual coffee pot itself does not clean well, and rusted out very fast. Other than that, this machine is great. I program the clock feature just about every morning so that the pot turns on itself at 6:00am right before I get up. The buttons are very clearly marked and easy to figure out.

I did not need to read the instructions at all! I would highly recommend this coffee pot for a college student who doesn’t have much room on counter tops in an apartment or condo, seeing as I am one myself! It’s a very small machine, but holds the average 12 cups of coffee. It’s a great little coffee pot.

The coffee comes out perfect, hot, and clean every time I use it, and I’ve had it over a year! I love this machine, and intend on keeping it as long as it still works. No breakage, no leaking, nothing. It’s really a great machine, and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

I like the automoatic shut off
by: Anonymous

I have the Black and Decker Smart Brew. I like it but I loved it when I first purchased it. The idea behind the Smart Brew is that before it is finished, you can actually pour yourself a cup of coffee and the filtering coffee would stop at that point. It was great, especially in the morning when I needed that coffee quick! Now, for some reason I cannot do that or else I will have a stream of coffee making a mess. What I like about it though is that it signals when the coffee is finished and the best part is that it has an automatic shut off. I can't tell you how many times I returned from out the door with previous coffee makers to see if I turned it off. Now I don't have to worry about that at all!

great features

The thing I like the best about my coffeemaker is the stainless steel pot. It is insulated and acts as a thermos to keep the coffee warm. It has an automatic timer so it is always ready when I wake up in the morning. After brewing, the coffeemaker shuts off and it is kept warm in the thermal pot. The stainless steel pot is easy t clean and I never have to worry about breaking it during cleaning. There is nothing about this coffeemaker tat I don't like.
